Wahoo ELEMNT RIVAL GPS Multi-Sport Watch

Possibly the longest name given to a watch this year is the Wahoo ELEMNT Rival GPS Multi-Sport Watch but in a world of catchy slogans, sometimes it’s just better to say what your product does from the off, just to avoid confusion.

This multi-sport watch is the rival, as the name suggests, to Garmin. Which Garmin smartwatch it rivals is up for debate as there is a much greater variety of Garmin watch than just the one Wahoo.

If you were to look at it as a price comparison the Wahoo ELEMNT RIVAL will cost you £349.99 from the Wahoo website. Compare that to Garmin, who is the Rival’s main, er, rival, the Forerunner 945 Garmin’s flagship Triathlete watch, will cost you £519.99 from the Garmin website. The Rival looks a snip at that price but what does it boast in the way of features?

Wahoo claims the watch has a Touchless Transition feature, allowing you to move from swim to cycle to run without having to touch the watch to let it know that is what you’ve done. Wahoo claims that as a part of the Wahoo ecosystem, RIVAL’s Multi-sport Handover mode allows it to interact with ELEMNT GPS cycling computers to transition race data from the watch to a cycling computer during the bike leg of a multi-sport activity such as a triathlon, ensuring that race data is always easy to see allowing athletes to focus solely on their race.

The RIVAL incorporates several class-leading features including a ceramic bezel and an ambient light sensor that automatically adjusts the backlight. Other must-have features include a battery that lasts 14 days in watch mode or 24 hours in GPS mode, a barometric altimeter, an optical heart rate sensor, and live tracking.

Wahoo’s RIVAL is already being used by some of the world’s best triathletes, including Ironman World Champion Jan Frodeno, American Ironman World Record holder Heather Jackson, and two-time Olympians Alistair and Jonny Brownlee.

Commenting on the new ELEMNT RIVAL GPS multisport watch, two-time Olympic triathlon champion Alistair Brownlee said: “Jonny and I are both really fond of Wahoo’s gear and have been using some of their products for a number of years now. Being able to rely on your equipment is completely essential for training and racing at the highest level.

When preparing for the big races, you’ve got to be able to focus on what you’re doing one hundred percent and not worry about your kit. The ELEMNT RIVAL helps me track all my metrics during a training session without distracting me from performing to the best of my ability – be that in the water, on the bike or when running”.

Wahoo ELEMNT RIVAL GPS Multi-Sport Watch is available to purchase from the Wahoo online store
